I want to change my domain name in my domain controller which is windows based.
All users have their profiles in their local machines,will this affect them when they log in after changing the domain name? How can i overcome this. please assist.

Yes, it is possible to change the domain name. However it is more involved then simply typing in a new domain name. The link below should provide you with enough information to get you started:

Is it worth changing the domain name of a pretty large domain with hundreds of thousands of AD objects?
