Connecting two routers wirelessly was created by ardeef
Hello.
I want to connect two routers wirelessly, lets say, 20 meters apart. What specific routers do I need( the brand, model, etc.).
What I know is that, one router must be a Wireless Distribution System(WDS) capable and the other router could be any wi-fi router.
I searched for a WDS capable router and found Linksys WAP200 but unfortunately, it's unavailable in our place.Budget must be considered that's why I did not look for any other expensive equipments.
BTW,most brands that are available in our place are Linksys,Dlink,Edimax and few Netgears.
Thanks.

A reasonably-priced solution (but which requires some extra work) would be to use two "DD-WRT"-firmware compatible routers. If you're not familiar with DD-WRT check out this
link
. I use the Buffalo whr-hp-g54 router which cost about £40.
The "extra work" I referred to above would involve replacing the original firmware with the appropriate DD-WRT firmware for the router. This is relatively easy to do as there are detailed instructions.
There are also detailed instructions for setting up a WDS system with routers running DD-WRT.
As I said, I personally use a router with DD-WRT and the features are simply unbelievable. SSH server, remote SSL/SSH admin, WDS, OpenVPN, Samba and the list goes on.
If you can't get a Buffalo router, you can also get a list of compatible routers from the DD-WRT website.

Thanks a lot.
I am currently reading about WRT and trying to figure it out if I'm gonna use the linksys WRT54g routers since it is the most abundant router in our place.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. However, you need to take note of the version number of the original firmware on your Linksys WRT54G as this could affect your choice of DD-WRT firmware and installation procedure. See
www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_WRT54G/GL/GS/GX
for more info.
