Shared Internet Connection not working was created by Twatmonkey
Alright i am running an older ME comp, and a XP Pro comp connected together by a cat 5 crossover cable . . .
I am pretty sure that i have done all the setup right so that they should be able to share internet but they dont. . . . and yes they are seeing eachother and i can transfer files
Can you help me out and go thru a checklist or tell me how it should be.
thx

drop to a dos box,
type ipconfig /all
make sure that the ME box has the XP box IP as its default gateway. (If ICS works differently, someone lemme know, I've never needed to use it).
Also, have you made sure the XP box has internet access ?

Make sure that the ics is set on the XP box. Go to networking properties on the me box and under tcpip properties, have it obtain ip address and dns server automatically.
That should do it.

I've had this problem in the past in my mini networking lab at home .... are you able to ping the ISP obtained ip of your XP machine from your ME ??? (Assuming that the XP machine connects to the ISP)
if yes try this and let us know if it worked ...
1. setup the XP machine's NIC's IP as the gateway for ME
2. obtain your service providers DNS server ips by doing an ipconfig/all on the XP machine.
3. use these DNS server ips on the ME machine
it worked for me in a XP-98 connection ... it shud work for ME as well ...
