About 50 to 100kbps would the the practical speed.

A PC of that spec should not be a limiting factor at 2Mbps. Most likely other factors such as distance from the exchange, quality of the line and ISP traffic shaping policies will be more significant.

A lot will depend on the operating s/m . previously with win 98 I was getting only 173kbps . But when I installed Xp I am getting over 1mbps . But not sure what are the other factors.
