Multicast Snooping was created by tsunami
Hi All,

I was just curious to know wether we can snoop the Multicast traffic on Well knnown address like OSPF, EIGRP, HSRP etc.

The point is when two routers are connected to the switch with EIGRP enabled, then EIGRP messages is visible to all the ports in the switch. Is there any way at all to restrict these hello packets to only the two ports where the routers are connected ?

Thanks

This is what I got from the cisco site.

CGMP does not prune multicast traffic for any IP multicast address that maps into the MAC address
range of 01−00−5E−00−00−00 to 01−00−5E−00−00−FF. The reserved IP multicast addresses, in the
range 224.0.0.0 to 224.0.0.255, are used to forward local IP multicast traffic in a single L3 hop.

As with CGMP, GDAs that map to a MAC that falls in the range 01−00−5e−00−00−xx is never pruned by IGMP snooping.

So I got my answer.
