Hello everyone,
sorry but I was very interrested by this post since i'm trying to link two computers in host-to-host and was actually hesitating between a usb 2.0 link cable and a direct connection between two gigabit NICs . Is there any chance you can meseaure the speed between two computers and without switch ? ( there was a study, from an american university, that measured the maximum transfer rate between two gigabits adapter to be an efective -or so- Gb/sec and at a MTU of 1500 ) . I think no crossover cable is needed, unlike for 100baseT .

That I am. It started out as a side project to teach myself multicast programming, and it ended up replacing a piece of commercial software at my last job. The original design had satellite transmission in mind, but I later refined it a bit to run more effectively over faster networks. It went through a few iterations before settling on a single process/thread architecture.
