Inter-VLAN Communication was created by Dove
Hi There,
I am having two 6509 switches both are configured with MSFC.
Each switch has configured with VLAN..say 2,3 and 4
Configuration Details
-===============
Switch Name : SwitchA
VLANs - 2 & 4
Server: ServerA (Connected on VLAN2)
Switch Name : SwitchA
VLANs - 2 & 4
Server: ServerB (Connected on VLAN 4)
The problem is I couldn't ping the serverA from ServerB some times. That is some time from serverB can ServerA then automaticall getting Request Time out.
Can someone help me what could be the reason.

Hi there Dove,
Can you please elaborate on the "some times" ? Do you mean the odd ping would work and then it wouldn't ? Do you have the config that you can share to see what it is ?
Cheers

The only thing i can think is that with the SVI it will work similar to the VLAN that the IP Address is attached to. By this i mean that if there are no ports that are live (i.e. a machine connected to a port within that VLAN) then the VLAN doesn't come up. This will mean that the VLAN's IP Address will not be valid and therefore you cannot ping it.
Hope that helps

Sorry, ignore that as i just re-read the original question and noticed that the problem is between servers not the VLAN IP.
Is it now working all ok then ? Thats strange ?

hmmm.....
I am sure that its not relate to server issue...because with in the same VLAN its pining with out any issues...!!!
anyhow now the problem was fixed...unknowingly....so myself and user's were happy now...
hehehe
Thanks for your reply Smurf.
But still I intrested what could be the root cause for this...because if its happen in future again then its not good solution right?...
