my question is this: -

1. if u were given a contract to build a cyber cafe with 50 flat screen computer all p4's. how would u start?

2. what wires will u use?

3. what type of connection will u prefer (client/server or p2p and why)?

4. how would u cable the cyber cafe?

5. What will be ur desired bandwidth size in Mbps?

i need ideas

ans 1 - start with a project plan. planning is needed to create a design, requirements, estimated costs, available resources, a project timeline i.e. what to do and when to do it etc. after that is ready, just keep on working according to the project plan.

ans 2 - wiring and cabling depends on what technology you would be using to render service. normally, ethernet LAN are very popular which can then be end-terminated by a router which acts as a gateway or an NTU. the main connection from your ISP would go into the other side of this router. hence on that LAN we are talking about cat5 cables running all around your planned place.

and 3 - client server would be the best choice according to me as it is better to have a centrally managed network rather than having a de-centralized management which can cause future problems in inter and intra connectivity. p2p are known for their connectivity problems, and lack of ease in management.

and 4 - concealed wiring. the servers/routers should be house in a different segment of the cafe, far away from the end nodes of the network. the wiring and cabling should run through concealded conduits for better insulation (even though the cat5 are already insulated). wherever a node is to be placed, the cat5 can be exposed by means of a wall socket or a patch panel.

and 5 - desired bandwidth should be a metric which can be calculated by taking into account how many computers would be using the internet facility.

thanks for ur brilliants suggestions.

one more question, since its a cyber cafe right, and u are been asked to commercialize it so that one has to pay some money and then u give him / her a ticket to log in.

what software would u recommend for this.

for information sake
i use and i am still using nettime software 1.41 but may be u have another option.
