hi im new here and newbie in networking. currently i am having a practical training on a company. they give us work to do documentation on their network, actually to upgrade their network and to see what the network lack of.this is only for training purpose, it will not be implement. they want us to propose with gigabit network and using all cisco products. currently they only have two cisco product as router 1700 and 2500. others are all 3Com switches.switched network.my task is to find most suitable devices on this technology - they want 10G for their network.this is my first documentation.i need to know, what are steps that i shall take as to select devices from all the Cisco devices, all complete with connectivity medium.from which level that i need to consider first?

Have a look on Cisco website at their 3750 range of switches. I use them here and they are great for providing Gigabit to the desktop with options for fibre modules and a high-speed stack interconnect
