is there a good reason for this type of networking trouble ?

well .. first of all I want to say hi to everyone in this forum.
And forgive me for my poor english ..

When I've got problem with networking, I ask google and come up to this website .. and most of the suggestion on this forum threads solve some of my networking problem.

I'm wondering is there any good reason on this type of question.
I used ADSL connection, IPCOP for my proxy, and XP Home on client.

I can't browse some of websites from my network such as mail.yahoo.com ; hotmail.com ; friendster.com .. etc

I tried to ping with my console , it replied and there's no problem with pinging.

I tried trace route websites that I told before, it replied and it shows how many hops to that website.

on the other side, at home I used cable connection and there's no problem browsing websites such as mail.yahoo.com ; hotmail and friendster .. etc

The question is,
is there something wrong with my network configuration ?
or it's my ISP problem ?

I'm really sorry if there's already have this kind of topics in this forums ..
But , any suggestion are welcome ..

as u are able to connect to the home network without any problems that means that thr is nothing wrong on ur computer .... it can be an ISP problem because ISP do have the Mx records which are required for the DNS translation ... so the best option is to get ur mxrecords cleared and re-installed .... and i am very sure will solve ur problem

do you have a content filtering installed? it could also be an effect of an existing content filtering.. you can ping, tracert the web sites but you cannot browse it.

Just to verify what Monsky's sez .... which is a very valid point BTW if u r at wrk and those folks for some reason would not widh you 2 access ur mailboxes ...... try connecting to the sites with the IP address of the site obtained by PINGING the domain name ! This will do 2 things :

a. Verify if it is a DNS resolution thingy ..........

b. Verify whether Content Filtering is being used .....

I guess we'd still be in the same boat .... cuz ur may now still have either a DNS issue or Domain Filtering enabled on the main router at ur place. Note that Domain based filterign 'd filter on the Domain name but the IP address being mapped onto the corresponding Domain name would be let off !

On second thoughts, an MTU related issue is not ruled off completely either. Try connecting to some other secure sites ..... Banking sites etc .... this will tell us if an MTU problem is raising its hood

P.S : There is almost no scope for this issue to be related to system specific settings .... almost none ! This may be verified by logging on from a different Domain Account on another PC.
