Hi, what is the procedure to install a Cisco IOS from a CD to a TFTP server? I am running Win XP, Cisco TFTP and Solar Winds 2003 Personal Edition have been dwnloaded to the PC. I coppied the IOS to TFTP-Root folder to Windows. When I give commands/follow steps to cpy TFTP to the Cisco router, a time out error continuosly occurs. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Ping was successful from the router to host's/PC static ip address. I believe the problem may be with the TFTP service and the location of the IOS file.

The IOS is copied to TFTP Root in WinXP.
How does the TFTP service/download know how to locate the TFTP Root folder and the image?

Thanks.

i had this problem once..try these:
# make sure the TFTP server is open on your pc

# make sure the file is in the root directory

# reduce the hop count between the router and the pc by eliminating any hubs or switches inbetween them. you might have to move the TFTP server or setup a new server topologically closer to the router, or try putting it on the same LAN segment with the router.

it should help, if it does not you might have to use a different TFTP server software.

Thanks folks, I got the TFTP going. Managed to copy router flash to TFTP server and a new image from the server to router.
