How to speedup web server? Pls help! was created by oldstudent
Hi all,
I had set up webserver with Apache 1.3 on my PC. But it's really poor! Although I'm using DSL connection, Its speed is about 7-8kb/s!
My PC: P4-1.5G 512MB RAM (cause I intend to share for a small group).
How can I speedup my server, esspecially upload speed?
Thanks,

Before you attempt any kind of troobleshooting, you should specify the problem and narrow down the potential causes as much as possible. By testing your server through your internal network, like Dalight suggested, and discovering that it works as it should, you immediately discarded the possibility that this was a misconfiguration or cpu/memory resource problem of the server.
Two other things to check:
- What is the uplink capacity of your adsl connection theoritically and how much better than the 8K/s does it perform in practice?
- Are there any other factors that would result in consuming the uplink bandwidth or overally saturating your Internet link during the issue (like p2p software, malware, etc.)? This applies for all the devices connected to your network.

Thanks for your clear reply!
As I tested my server in local network, the problem of server has been discarded. I use some good AV programs ( BitDefender & firewall). I also have some experiences in anti virus, spy and malware is not a problem.
Current test result:
Download Speed: 1857 kbps (232.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 317 kbps (39.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Promising upload speed of my ISP: about 500kbps
By posting this thread, I concentrate on configuring upload connection. Are there any tips to speed up it? I'm using this router:
www.sdt.co.kr/menu3-proc/proc-ZIO-html/INB3040SR.htm
Hope you can help me!
