word documents don't open from explorerbut will inside wor

hello, I have a computer here at the office (p4 1.8 GHz .5 GB ram, windows XP Pro, in a domain) that has an interesting problem. The only thing I can think of that was done was CCleaner was ran on it.

I try to open a word document by double clicking on it. It opens the Program Word (MS office XP, Service pack 3) but thats it, it doesn't open the program. I have tried messing around with the File extension in folder types, but it all looks right, so what am I missing?

I would try doing a detect and repair of word. You can see this from the help menu

Under Folder Options choose the File Types tab. Highlight Word document from the list of file types and click Advanced. This gets you in to the MIME settings that specify how the application opens the file. Compare the options set for the Word document with those set for something else (say and Excel spreadsheet). My guess is that something in there has got messed up. If you can't fix it that way (and you might not be able to), then as Smurf says it's time for a repair or reinstall

I have done a detect and repair, I have uninstalled word and reinstalled word, I have tried mimicking the other advanced options from computers in the same office, and I have done a complete reinstall (not an uninstall though) of all of office.... no avail

Did you get anywhere with what I suggested above?

yes this was tried many times over and with no avail. I formated the drive and reinstalled windows. Thanks for all the help though.
