BIOS was created by saidfrh
Someone may have messed with my IBM T23 laptop. The hard drive is not recognized in the BIOS. The BIOS does not even list the hard drive. The first boot devise is a temporary boot devise; the 3rd devise is CDROM, the 4th devise is some gibberish. The bios does not indiicate a number 2. Could the bios have been rewritten to completely omit the hard drive? I just installed a new hard drive--same old same old--no effect. I can only use the laptop when the Win OS XP is in. Any suggestions?

hi,
your laptop bios should have an option called "restore factory defaults"
try using that.
and if that works, then proceed to identify your hard drive.
and from now on. password - protect your bios

I checked the BIOS. The hard drive was listed number 2 drive. There was an exclamation mark before the hard drive. I believe the exclamation mark signified that the drive was disabled. On the right side of the screen was an option to press the "insert" key to activate the drive. The "insert" key, indeed activated the hard drive.
