Uber newb in Linux was created by Bublitz
Hey folks. I finnaly made a machine with linux on it. I have Fedora Core 4. Im a VERY novice user, i can do simple things like move around in terminal. Copy paste ect.

What I want to learn how to do is use Apache web server. Also configure DNS.

I want to have a web server to host my web site and maybe some friends. I also want to be able to POP3 and SMTP for e-mail. Have a FTP server and my old website (I was paying for hosting) had a cool /cpanel on my site where I could make e-mail accounts and message boards ect.

All of these things I can do in windows very easily. Linux is a whole new world for me so i want to learn it.

SO fedora is install and apache is installed (i think)

I tried using the GUI DNS tool BIND config GUI. I tried to add a zone now it wornt even open LOL. I use DNS in windows all the time I dont have any trouble. Although I havent been working with DNS too long. When I make zones in Linux I get errors and It wont let me save my changes.

Ive run Apache in windows I cant even figure it out there. It runs..but i dont know how to add sites or know were i need to go to configure that stuff. IIS I can make a Website or FTP server with minimal trouble.

Just looking for some help I also see this stie has some articles on DNS altho that using command line. It looks like with linux im going to have to learn command line really good. Shouldent be to hard for me to pickup I LOVE cisco routers.

Is there a command to run so i know what processes/programs are running like taskmanager?

The shell command top is the Linux equivalent of task manager. Shows processes and CPU usage, etc. Not sure about your email question.
