Virtual machines

Here is a challenge (o maybe not).
The idea is to have a server with as many images of virtual machines as you like. Than have your terminals or PCs boot any one of these virtual machines.
The machine (terminal or pc) would need to show a menu of the available virtual machines to load from so that the user would then select.
Is this doable? Does it already exist?

Never heard of any products that would do that. Would you want multi users to be able to use the same VM at the same time? Most VM's don't let you run multi instances of a single VM instance.
Drop some more specifics of what you want to do and how.. it sounds interesting.

Humm... I thought VMWare could do something like this. It was like a VMWare thinclient type solution where you could get the workstation from the VMWare server or something.

I'm not sure but I think you're talking about OS virtualization:

And if you're thinking of using windows, I only know of Parallels Virtuozzo:

Did I help you?

I remember trying VMware server (free edition) and it did have a web portal were users can login and choose to start any VM in the server. That was more than a year ago.
