WEP,

hi guys,
i have been reading some features form a friend's new wi-fi router, and i found this "new" tech called WEP.
Is it secure??? I ask this cause i also read an article titled "next generation tools in WEP cracking"...
I am just curious about it...

WEP is pretty much useless..

Switch to WPA or similar..

and tunnel important traffic over SSL.

MAC address filtering doesnt offer big security. if we know a MAC address of one computer on the network we change our MAC with a MAC sniffer tool for Win or with ifconfig for linux. Also and WEP dont provide security. Many tools crack the encryption (such as Aircrack & Airsnort) and we can find the WEP key. The only safe is WPA at the moment. Also the change of default SSID and disabling of SSID boardcasting, but and this method doesnt offer security at all.

I agree that you need to use WPA. Are you saying you should not use MAC Filtering also. I know that the MAC address is passed in the packet as clear, but why take out another security option. Not using MAC Filtering, doesn't increase security.
