Hmm is it cold where you are ? I know that my old machine used to do this.. took some time to boot.. I don't know if its the cold (?!) or power fluctuations or what.. check the power levels in your BIOS.
Also, boot from a Linux live CD like Knoppix and see whether it hangs.. I think you're right it sounds like a hardware issue... check the SMPS, RAM and motherboard.. most likely one of those is about to give up the ghost.
Cheers mate,

It could be the opposite also - might be too hot. Check that the CPU fan and the fan in the power supply are running.
By the way, is this the 'Beautiful and very blond' user? Perhaps it's just the "I must find you reasons to keep going back to fix her machine" virus...
Sahirh - if this virus doesn't exist perhaps you could write one? Oh sorry, forgot you don't work for Microsoft!

Rumour has it that Sahir has been seen behaving suspiciously at Microsoft TechNet briefings before suddenly being tackled by a burly security guard and escorted out. All through he kept chanting 'Power to the Penguin !!'
Yes I'm convinced he's *making up* these problems for the cute blonde ... I can't take this anymore.. I think I'd better go down and personally help her fix her computer.

From a recent newspaper report...
"Systems Engineer Ray Digerati,34 is repairing computers for women in New York - in return for sexual favours. He charges one orgasm for two hours IT work!"
Maybe you could learn a lesson or two off this guy.
You wont know unless you dont ask!
