I would be interested in having any intelligent discussion about nmap. If you do have anything specific, we can explore the subject. Let me know.

I have the privilege of using nmap like some people drink coffee... its the best network discovery / portscanning tool you'll ever lay your paws on.

What exactly do you want to know about it.. I will break down the top features

1. Fast (well.. as of version 3.70+)
2. Multiple scanning modes... SYN, XMAS, NULL, FIN, Connect(), and of course.. the awesome idle scan
3. OS detection
4. Service version fingerprinting
5. Source port control
6. Multiple 'discovery' modes, TCP pings ACK / SYN, 3 different ICMP messages, standard ICMP pings

If you are a bit more specific about what you want to know about nmap I'll be happy to guide you through it.

I will to see if you reply to this post, and if you do, I will move this post to the 'Security & Firewalls' forum, so remember to look for it there.

Cheers,

--apit,

Did you read the information on the link I gave you? Honestly, if you are expecting other people to answer all of your questions, spoon feed, you will never learn anything for yourself. Put some effort kiddo. Go to www.insecure.org . Search on Google.

As far as my experience with nmap, I'm just a new kid into the field of Computers, Networks, & Security. I've an amazing experience of may be 2 months into Computers. That should answer your question.
