Important Information on the new Firewall.cx website!

As all of you are aware of, we are getting ready to welcome the new Firewall.cx website. We are now in the process of finalizing the last details and preparing to migrate our member list and forums to the new site.

In order to keep the new site as ‘clean’ as possible from spam and inactive accounts, which has been a big problem lately, it has been decided that only accounts with valid forum posts will be migrated to the new site. All other accounts (users without any forum posts or inactive accounts) will be permanently deleted.

This decision will decrease significantly our member numbers, but will ensure valid users remain on the site, plus open up thousands of usernames to future readers wanting to register with the site.

Closing, during the final migration, Firewall.cx will remain operational, however forum posts and new user registrations will not be allowed. Once the migration is complete, we will reopen all sections of the site to the public.

Should anyone have questions or problems with the above, we will be more than happy to address them in the site's forums.

Thank you.

Hi guys,

The old forums will not get *nuked* :) We are actually going through a lot of trouble to save the forums and migrate them to the new CMS system.

So far, it seems like everything is going well since have successfully performed the first migration test and were able to migrate all forum posts.

The problem encountered has to do with the user accounts. It seems like every user will most likely need to log in to the system and setup their profile again. Information such as 'Location', Avatar, Signature will most probably need to be setup again by each user. This is a 5 minute process.

While we are trying to minimise the work for you all, this is a small price to pay for such a big migration.

The final migration is most probably going to happen during this weekend as we need to get the new site online asap, however it all depends on the development group's success to fix a few issues we are still experiencing. If all goes well, we might be running under the new Firewall.cx on Sunday afternoon, otherwise it might happen during this week.

Of course, problems are expected, the forums are going to change quite a bit and will need some time to get use to, but I strongly believe it will benefit us all.

We still are working on the forum colours, but at least we have something to start from and then slowly adapt them as we go.

Finally, since the new site is running on a new server, we will be moving the firewall.cx domain to the new server. This means that there will be a 'transition' state as the world-wide DNS servers slowly update their DNS information for Firewall.cx.

Please let me know if you have any further questions as I'd be more than happy to answer them.

Cheers to everyone!

Chris.
