Reverse Telnet

Could anyone explain
a. what is reverse telnet. where is it used.
b. NIC loopback Circuitry with regard to CSMA/CD.

Reverse Telnet (sometimes called direct Telnet) is the initiation of a Telnet session from a computer system to one of its remote users. Usually, a Telnet session is initiated by a user who wishes to access and share resources on a remote computer system. The user must have permission and is prompted to provide a user name and password.
Reverse Telnet is typically used by a system administrator to configure or to troubleshoot a remote computer.

The NIC loopback circuitry is part of the CSMA/CD mechanism in that it allows the NIC to listen to the wire while transmitting so that it can detect collisions. Have a look at the following threads where it's been discussed before:

Brillient Bishop, very informative links thanks. I didn't understand the second part of the original question but it all makes sense now Long time since i read about CSMA/CD so all good refresh....

Sorry to revive this thread but just reading my BCRAN book to get prepared for the exam and something doesn't add up

In Cisco speak, the reverse telnet means to setup a telnet session where you go down the serial connection to the remote device.

I.e. telnet ip linenumber

If you just telneted to to ip address, the router you were telnetting from who know where the IP Address was and go down the correct serial connection wouldn't it ?
